Strategies

Some of the developmental strategies exercised in order to achieve the mission are as follows:

Establishment of strong links at the grassroots
Nurture of strong organisational base of the marginalised to operate as autonomous bodies that can self-manage all administrative and financial transactions including fund raising activities while functioning as democratic units.

Encourage the formation of small groups and/or active membership organisations such as Women’s groups, Youth clubs, Savings groups, Farmers’ Associations, Fishermen’s Societies etc. to further their own interest and in turn to contribute to the betterment of the whole community.

Motivate and support women’s’ participation in partner organisations.
Recognise the local knowledge and skills as well as provide training wherever necessary to the people so as to facilitate lasting changes in their lives towards betterment.

Focus on early childhood development through pre-school activities ensuring quality outcome.Emphasise the limits of funding in terms of time and activities and work on the basis of an explicit withdrawal timetable with the beneficiaries.

Anchor all development work within the concept of equal partnership with the beneficiary’s as well as funding agencies.

Strengthen the collaboration with the Government and its regional agencies in the districts.

Net Work with like-minded organisations.

Objectives
The strategies could be translated into the following achievable objectives.

Socio Economic:
Mobilising the marginalised communities into groups and organisations enabling them to find durable solutions to existing problems in order to uplift their standard of living.

Family income level increased
Access to improved income through thrift and credit operations.
Increased production, and better marketing avenues.
Improved water supply, sanitation and housing facilities.
Increased accessibility to quality education to children.
Improved services from the government sector agencies. (Such as health, primary health care, nutrition, education etc.)
Increased participation of the members in the community development programmes.

Community services centres and community banks established for development work.
Partnership development emphasised through written agreements.
Level of exploitation reduced and people have better bargaining power. 

Temperance:
Create a change in the attitudinal and behavioural aspect among the communities in order to prevent the consumption of alcohol and drug and any other similar substances.

Reduction in the alcohol consumption and production.
More surplus and savings among the population created for production investments.

Community organisations at the forefront in fighting the alcohol and drug issues and an alcohol and drug free life style created.,
Aggressive marketing of alcohol counterforce. 

Peace and Harmony:
Promote and support the Peace initiatives for the co-existence for harmonious life, among the different community groups to work on a common platform, and participate in joint initiatives created or identified by other agencies.

Peace recognised as a pre requisite for sustainable development by the community groups.Partner organisations joined together in Peace projects.

Awareness created in, on-going peace initiatives and participation in the peace reconciliation among the parties in conflict, ensured.
Information materials produced and disseminated to the local organisations.

Representatives from all the communities integrated in joint meetings within SLAHDA’s own work. 

Humanitarian assistance:
Disaster management through early warning and to provide emergency response both individually and collectively to reduce the human suffering to the communities affected by disaster, and strengthen the community by assisting the communities to re-establish themselves preferably in a well co-ordinated manner. 

Affected community receives support in food, shelter, water, sanitation, and to meet the needs of the non-food articles.

Accessibility for the children to education, better nutrition, health care etc. increased.

Safety and security of the affected ensured.

Resettlements, food security and economic developmental activities planned and set up in order to reduce dependency.
Human rights safeguarded.
